Steve Trevor Has Bad Luck.

Nov 30, 2006 in What Were They Thinking, Wonder Woman

The Ancient Atlantean Amazons aren’t as nice as the one’s on Paradise Island. When Steve Trevor crashes in Atlantis, they don’t offer to send him off with their princess.

No, they take a more forthright approach. But not before they mention something interesting…

So Ancient Atlantean is a derivative of English, a language that didn’t exist then?

Wow, the Atlanteans were advanced!

That’s A Pretty Big Design Flaw, Right There.

I love Wonder Woman’s invisible plane. From the original non-aerodynamic design to the fact that people always seem to see it coming despite the whole “invisible” aspect.

I also love the situations it gets her in.

Um, if you only control it vocally, then why is there a stick?

It used to be mental control, btw. No idea when it changed. That’d be a far better idea. I mean, what if she was gagged? That’s pretty likely, considering her propensity for being bound.

(The vocal control makes a fun element though. Two Golden Age stories center around someone taping her voice and using it to control her plane)

Venus Girdles.

Here is another re-occurring item in these stories.

So apparently, it’s only submissive women that are from Venus.

Irish Gypsy

Nov 27, 2006 in Racism, What Were They Thinking, Wonder Woman

I confess, I did not know that there were Irish Gypsies until I read Wonder Woman #28 and then looked it up on Wiki.

Still, looking at this story I have to wonder:

Do Irish Gypsies actually dress in stereotypical Rom garb? And have Rom-esque names?

Anyone?

Of Course Not.

Wonder Woman refuses to beat a slave girl:

It makes sense; she’s a bottom, not a top.

Now had that been Etta Candy…

Happy Thanksgiving.

Let’s see how the colonist’s descendants honor the culture that helped them survive in a new land…

It gets worse. Read the fine print!

Can’t break character when we’re stereotyping the aboriginals, now can we?

White people suck.

The Holliday Girls Were Kinky.

Nov 22, 2006 in Spanking, What Were They Thinking, Wonder Woman

First of all, one has to love the fact that Wonder Woman’s sidekicks were an all-girl’s marching band.

Then throw in the fact that they’re also a sorority marching band.

Then add in that they’re a kinky, cosplaying, sorority marching band.

“Grand Mistress of Spanks and Slams”?

Is it hot in here?

Bad Science Hurts Typo’s Brain.

Nov 21, 2006 in Bad Science, What Were They Thinking, Wonder Woman

Ladies and gents, I give you Wonder Woman 22, where the master villain is an evil cosmetologist.

No, really.

His master plan is actually kind of smart: make Hollywood types seem all pale via a special ray, and then they come to him to treat said cure. Clever.

Or so it seems, until he tries to explain it.

First we have the token bound women panel (how you know you’re reading an issue of WW! If there are no bound women by page 3, you know it’s a cheap knock off).

Now on to the WWTT!

Wha-huh-nuh?

Is there a cardiologist in the house?

Wonder Woman Week: In a Nutshell.

Nov 20, 2006 in Bondage, What Were They Thinking, Wonder Woman

Welcome to Wonder Woman week on WWTT. Actually, Wonder Woman Weeks would be more apt. There’s a richness of wwttery there that seems second to only Superman.

Let’s start, shall we?

The below panel from WW #28 actually sums up the theme of just about every Golden Age Wonder Woman Story.

Really, that just about sums it up.

Be fair, Lois. He needs to put the money from his coal-to-diamond schemes somewhere.
