“A Woman’s Answer”

Jul 31, 2007 in Sexism, What Were They Thinking, X-Men

Those aren’t your shorts riding up Summers. That’s Jean giving you a TK wedgie.

Graduation Day

Jul 30, 2007 in What Were They Thinking, X-Men

In Uncanny X-Men #39, the merry mutant mavericks finally graduate.

This does not mean they leave the school (perish the thought). It just means they get “unique” costumes.

Some more unique than others.

“For the first time– I really look like an angel!”

Well, sure, if we’re assuming angels have no fashion sense.

That is one ugly costume.

X-CUSE Me?

So what, Mutants are like dogs? Oh, just the evil ones? Okay, sure, that makes it better.

Racists.

My HERO!

Oh swoooooon.

Anyone else feel a sudden urge to gag?

The woman is a super powered mutant! She’s received the same training you have. She doesn’t need your protection, mister “OH NOES I can’t control my powers!”

Infamous

Jul 25, 2007 in Sexism, What Were They Thinking, X-Men

Everyone told me to be on the lookout for this particular panel. I finally found it in Uncanny X-Men #28.

It was as good as I hoped.

This is, of course, by Roy Thomas.

Those of you playing the WWTT home game may now take a shot.

I really need to add a “Roy Thomas” tag.

Oh and speaking of things people keep recommending, I’ve recently discovered Dr. Who, which was always outside my “geek threshhold”. Loving it.

This Is Actually Disturbing.

Sorry about the lack of post yesterday. Tisha B’av is the saddest day of the Jewish year and I thought a post would be in poor form, even by proxy.

Speaking of “poor form”

Let me first note that I live in NY and on 9/11 worked in a location where you could see the Towers.

Then observe this.

Between this and that episode of “the Lone Gunmen”, I’m getting a little weirded out.

Is this some kind of meme?

Note!

There won’t be a post tomorrow as I will be observing Tisha B’av.

Take a Shot!

Jul 23, 2007 in Fantastic Four, Sexism, Thor, What Were They Thinking

It wasn’t until his second run on the title decades later, but Rascally Roy did it.

Aside from the highly disturbing first initial dialogue making it sound like The Thing intends to have his way with Sif (especially when you consider that he’s being mind controlled by the woman who raped Thor), this is noteworthy for the Thomasism (I just made that up) of having men refer to woman as “female” in dialogue.

Bonus shot for the horror of hitting a lady snapping Ben out of it.

Remember kids, don’t read Roy Thomas comics and drive.

A Crime Against Fashion.

Jul 20, 2007 in Thor, What Were They Thinking

Let’s be frank – Thor does not exactly have the coolest costume. Kirby made it look great, but under the pencil of some other artists, it looks pretty lousy (especially when those metal circlets are drawn as fabric).

With the exception of Simonson’s armored look, most Thor redesigns have been pretty boring (although I know some fans of Shirtless Thor)

The below design, however, is the worst by a mile.

Jane Foster is obviously off-panel trying to keep from laughing.

This Just Seems Silly.

Rather than making your alarm so loud that it defeats soundproofing, why not simply rig some kind of intercom system?

The mechanical feet, by the way, are even sillier.

I keep imagining Xavier in the pants from “The Wrong Trousers”.
