I Need a “Fashion Police” Tag.

Aug 31, 2007 in What Were They Thinking, X-Men

Uncanny X-Men Annual #10 brings us the first real use of the X-Babies concept. It also brings back the concept that Xavier’s students “graduate” to unique costumes.

Unfortunately, when someone told Art Adams this, he must have thought “unique” meant “fugly”.

Seriously, there is not one redeemable costume in that bunch. Magma with a different color scheme, maybe. Karma and Mirage’s are almost racist and Cannonball’s purple jumpsuit is an eyesore.

This, however, is not the worst bit.

Gha!

I couldn’t get a good quality scan, but in case you were wondering, Magneto has a red armband over his left bicep.

That really couldn’t be more wrong.

Also, the dialog in this is craptastic too. You know how Marvel tried to make their teen characters sound “hip” and ‘with it” in the Silver Age? Well, they tried that here, too. The results were less than readable.

Ahhh the 80s!

Aug 30, 2007 in Sexism, What Were They Thinking, X-Men

There was just this… mentality to the 80s. If you weren’t “there”, I don’t know if I can explain it.

Wait, maybe I can.

I think that sums it up, no?

This is Just… Odd.

Aug 29, 2007 in Freudian Images, Sexism, What Were They Thinking, X-Men

Uncanny X-Men Annual #7 features an odd story involving the Impossible Man and a scavenger hunt. For the most part, it’s cute. Even funny in places. There’s a terrible self-insert of just about all the Marvel staff in the middle, but since it’s for comedic purposes I’ll give it a pass.

Then there’s the last page.

Bad art, sexualized minors (poorly, I might add), some iffy dialog and, my personal favorite- eating popsicles in bikinis. I’m sorry, but even with poor art, there’s no way that isn’t Freudian.

Marketing

“We need a good cover gimmick for this issue. Something to really draw them in.”

“How about Wolverine killing Kitty Pryde?”

“Nah, we did that one already.”

“Okay, some other young character.”

“Who’s younger than Kitty Pryde?”

“I’m the best at what I do… and what I do is stab kids.”

Professor Lech

First he lusts after Jean, now this.

I’m surprised he wasn’t chasing after the New Mutants too.

The Morning After.

The Morning After.

Now there’s a face to wake up to.

Oh I think we all know what she means, Chuckles.

Hey, if you can’t hold your liquor, don’t blame the lady.

Maybe It’s a Cultural Thing?

Aug 23, 2007 in Creepy Relationships, X-Men

I just can’t imagine sending a photo like this to my surrogate father figure, can you?

“If any of you need me, my X-Men, I’ll be in my study. Alone. Knock first.”

Come to think of it, who took that photo anyway?

X-Rule Part 2.

Aug 22, 2007 in What Were They Thinking, X-Men

You know what?

Just stay off the topic of hair altogether.

Looking these over, that “hope you survive the experience” cover sure was prescient.

If anyone is coveting a Microsoft Zune, woot.com has the white ones for $150 today.
