The Solution & Cause of All of Life’s Problems.

Mar 31, 2009 in Cliches, Justice League, What Were They Thinking

No, not alcohol (this time), time travel. The JSA go back in time to undo Evil Johnny’s swaps of the League.

Hey, here’s a crazy idea… if you time travel to a point to stop something from happening, and it’s already happened… why not travel back a bit further?

Alternate Evil Characters

Mar 30, 2009 in Bad Science, Cliches, Justice League, What Were They Thinking

I loved all the old JLA/JSA Earth-1/Earth-2 team-ups. One thing I loved was this particular story in #37. It seems Johnny Thunder, who was basically a 1940’s version of Snapper Carr with a pet genie, got in a snit over not having an Earth-1 counterpart in the League (because no-one made the obvious parallel I just did). Johnny goes to Earth-1 to see his alternate self, who turns out to be a criminal, and insanely capable. Basically, Earth-1 is to Johnny Thunder what Earth-3 (home of the CSA) is to the League.

Evil Johnny gets control of the Thunderbolt and begins a reign of terror. He also finds a great way to get the league out of the picture:

I get how the swap with the Flash works, and I guess the guy could have stolen Ray Plamer’s belt and another GL’s ring, but how the hecks do you “swap” criminals in place of Superman and J’onn?

Covering for Hal

More “invisible yellow” nonsense, this time with corroboration.

“Thanks Katar. I’ll pay you later.”

Wait, WHAT?

Mar 26, 2009 in Bad Science, Justice League, The Flash, What Were They Thinking

I demand to know how this works:

Yeah, that’s right – I can “accept” the idea that the guy can run super-fast or that he has super-fast reactions. I’ll even buy the fun super-science idea of a natural inertial damning field and an immunity to the effects of friction. I’m choking on the idea that somehow his eyes can perceive light faster than the actual speed that light travels.

Suspension of disbelief: Fail.

A blurb about Police Women from Batman # 131

“Why, they’re almost as useful as men!”

Wait, What?

Here’s a fun fact:

Invulnerability is apparently not a super-power.

Now you too can draw like Greg Land!

I love the “NO TALENT!’ blurb. At least they’re honest.

More Fun with Married Batman

Mar 20, 2009 in Batman, Sexism, What Were They Thinking

Ah, that Bruce Wayne, what a catch he’ll be one day:

(Although to be fair, this is Alfred’s fantasy, so it’s more about how Alfred views women.)

“Goodness me, my son may be dying, but at least I still have my figure!”

This Can’t Be Right!

Mar 19, 2009 in Batman, Sexism, What Were They Thinking

Behold, a non-sexist Batman story!

Apparently, the only way women cannot be a Lois Lane or Carol Ferris is if they’re aliens.

Creepy Carol

Mar 18, 2009 in Bad Science, Cliches, Creepy Relationships, Green Lantern, Sexism, What Were They Thinking

Welcome back, my friends, to the wonderful world of Creepy Carol!

When we last left Carol Ferris, she was pining over Green Lantern and finding excuses to spent time with him, entrap him into marrying her, and expose his secret ID. In other words, in love comic book style.

More after the break…
