Here’s something we see a lot in the Golden Age, and to a lesser extent in the Silver Age:
A hero suddenly developing a power he’s never had, to get out of a specific situation. Nine times out of ten, that power never shows up again (see – Wonder Woman’s gills, Superman’s shapeshifting, or the plethora of Martian Powers J’onn pulls from his hat).
What’s notable about this one is it’s a gadget-powered hero doing it this time.
