Kinda Early For a Running Theme.

Like I mentioned at the start of all this, Metal Men can really be used for a paper on Gender Roles in Media. Aside from the Doc/Platinum/Mercury aspects, there’s the plots to issue one and four (which actually continues into 5)

Once again, an alien robot, which somehow has a “gender” (and you can tell, because they gave her a boob-cleft!), wants one of the Metal Man for a “mate”. Which opens a Pandora’s box of questions about robot nookies.

Too late! You thought of it too!

Oh, and despite the “amazons” line, there are male robots on this planet. We’ll get to them. Oh boy will we ever…

The middle/third panel reminds me of a scene from Singing in the Rain. One of the “Dueling Cavalier” movie scenes. Paraphrasing, as it's been a few months since I've seen it:

“Whatever is the matter? All of the ladies of the court wish they were in your pretty shoes…”
(Response that indicates the envied noble lady longs for a man at her side.)

It's nice (??) to know that Rule 34 was in effect for robots well before Transformers came along.

I'm almost hoping we'll get to see her and Doc square off.

The queen's crown looks like some kind of cheap antenna. Also, I wouldn't dare questioning the effectiveness of super-advanced alien technology but… Is it just me or the “Tin Amazons” look like angry overgrown office chairs? Al least from waist down.

“We shall not return without him!” Neither would I, what with the furnance waiting for me and all…

Brings to mind the Futurama quote about Bender the robot having an operation to turn him into a “fem-bot”: “One mistake now, and Bender will be forever trapped between the already ill-defined robot sexes.” Also if I remember the episode correctly, Bender didn't start stalking Tin.
