I’ve always enjoyed the Blackhawks, although I confess I can never remember their names. I know Jonas, Olaf, and Lady Blackhawk is Zinda… but the others are a blur of black leather (clean your dirty minds).
Then there’s the one I try to forget:
(That’s getting a Freudian imagery tag, that’s for sure).
I was going to make a snide remark about Chop Chop being yet another “comic relief” racist caricature and a relic of an older time, but then I did some searching and I see that he maintained his “me so solly” nonsense well into the 50s. So for about twenty years there, kids were entertained by the antics of what was essentially a giant slur.
Oh, and apparently, Post-Crisis they reveal that these Chop Chop strips were “comic book stories” written inside Blackhawk comic books that existed in the DCU itself. Because, apparently, instead of dropping these stories into a dark, dank hole and never speaking of them again, it was somehow important that they be worked into continuity.
And people wonder why I hate continuity….
