Wonder Woman Recruits

Wonder Woman meets Eta Candy (who she’s already met as Nurse Diana Prince) and decides to use her.

Not how you’re thinking, you perverts…

‘That’s right! Because women are just in college to bide time till they can find a man!”

Of course, it’s not every girl.

“Sorry, no ugly gals. You’re going to have to learn to work for a living.”

Oh, G-d, so much ridiculousness, but WW was never anything but. I still can’t believe some of her “plots” got past the censors. Here, instead of some army general telling her alter-ego that she’s just a woman (or female) and not good enough, here she is recruiting other “females”. She’s a bitch, and I can almost guarantee that in the next panel she makes a crack about Eta’s weight.

Well, back then there were no censors.

It is fun, though, watching Wonder Woman superfans go on and on about the character’s history, while making it abundantly clear that their understanding of said history doesn’t go very far beyond the TV show.

Beautiful, athletic, ravenous chocolate eater girls… like you! No, wait…

I hope the new TV show uses this plotline. It could be like there version of “America’s top model”

Man oh man oh man. Explain to me again how WW was supposed to be a good female role model as I have heard alleged?

Dr. N: just as Superman stopped using threats to force confessions and kidnapping people, and just as Batman stopped machine-gunning criminals from an armed Batplane (really), Wonder Woman also changed quite a bit.

I’m not sure the charges of sexism are warranted in this case. I suspect a person could gather a fair-sized contingent of men willing to chase down some ‘dangerous women.’

Honestly, I tend to see Etta as sexually liberated. She doesn’t have that “you’re not complete without a man” vibe; she functions perfectly well with her all-female band of sidekicks and her female superhero buddy. She just LIKES men, because hey, why not?

But then, I’m a huge Golden Age Etta partisan, so that could be bias.
