Meanwhile, my destroyed bathroom should be 100 percent fixed tonight when I get home. Still fighting with my insurance company over the last couple thousand an am basically having to borrow from our retirement to pay for everything. One the one hand, we’re in our thirties so no big, right? On the other hand, it’s a Bad Idea in general.
So year, life is crazy.

Good luck fighting with the insurance company. Here in Hurricane Central we have plenty of experience with this, and it's never a fun time. Hopefully you only have a few fellow flood-worn friends (by few, I mean less than 1,000) fighting with you. When it's an entire state (Florida), they actually have to set up tent cities for the insurance companies to handle all of the claims, and the companies deliberately do a bad job. Believe it or not, there are still people in SoFla with blue roofs from Hurricane Wilma in 2005! Add that to the fact that none of the insurance companies actually want to write homeowner's policies here anymore, so we have to be insured by a government-run clearinghouse, Citizens Property Insurance Co. They are perfectly happy to sell auto policies, but the second you start talking actual risk, they run like little girls. They screwed the Katrina victims in New Orleans because their damage was from the flooding, not the windstorm, and most people there didn't have flood insurance. That, I acknowledge, is the victims' fault considering the location of New Orleans, but in Florida, you are REQUIRED to have flood insurance for your own good. There was one old man in New Orleans who had been paying Allstate for 50 years without a claim, but they paid him nothing for his ruined house because the damage was caused by flooding. Just remember, you are NOT in good hands (looking at you, Allstate), and there are NO good neighbors like State Farm. That would make them BAD neighbors.

Yeah, we're both lucky enough to have retirement funds, and we've both been adding for a while.
Nice insurance rant. We're lucky in that we're *not* in the local flood plain. Water damage was from a burst pipe. Still, the fighting has been insane. I found out I was overinsured too. FUN.
If you're taking money from your retirement to pay for repairs, in many cases if you replace the money within 60 days you don't have to pay the I.R.S. penalties. If you know an accountant, talk to them and see. Perhaps you'll get your insurance check in time. Good luck!
