Contradictory Dialogue is Contradictory

The dialogue here should have had a bit more reworking before publication,

Ah, no Hal. If you have a feeling of superiority, then it actually does mean something to you.

Regardless though, what an insanely egotistical sequence.

Holy cow. 1,469 hits yesterday! We’ve been breaking a thousand lately, but wow.

Hal, at least you’ll have something to rub in Superman’s face. “Yeah, well, I’m dicking around with people before they even evolve!”

The best part of it is how smug he looks while he’s whining about his jaded attitude. “Yeah, I’m jaded *and* superior. You got a problem with that?”

     Evolution doesn’t work that way!

He’s not saying the fireball will make life – he just stopped it from smashing into the planet.

No, there’s no “ladder of evolution”.  If you have some trait that helps you have more offspring who survive to reproduce themselves, and if that trait can be inherited, it becomes more common.  Creatures only evolve ‘intelligence’ if intelligence helps with that.

Ah well, truth be told I also feel superior to a bunch of amoebas, Hal, but it’s kind of embarrasing to go around boasting about it, it gives the impression that you just realized it, and that doesn’t leave your IQ in a very good place.

A study in contrasts.  Hal – able to do pretty much anything he wants, is bored out or his skull by everything.  Typolad – a mere mortal with mere mortal powers, feels excitement at quadruple-digit blog hits.  Personally, I’ll take the latter.
